This is the third time my friend Hellen has been there and I visit her often. She has made so many friends of the staff. The staff are all incrediable! Always happy and helpful. In my opinion the best around. And word of mouth is the best advertisement you can have. Word around town is 'South Port Square is the place to be'!
My mom went to South Port Square recently for rehab on her left total hip replacement. She had just had the same hip replaced in December but do to her body rejecting the first hip they had to do a total hip replacement this time. We knew we didn’t want her at the same rehab facility with the first hip, so we chose South Port and so glad we did. I truly wish we would have chosen South Port with the first hip surgery. The care my mom got here was total amazing and the staff went above and beyond during her stay. They truly make you feel like family and want to be sure you are completely satisfied during your stay and after. Several staff members would stop in throughout the day to check on my mom, it wasn’t just the nurses. Even the therapy staff were extremely caring and don’t push you or force you to work faster than your pace. They take their time when working with you and encourage you to go a little further each day and set bigger goals. Once my mom came home the staff at South Port has even called to check up on her to be sure she is still doing ok and continuing with her healing process. If you every need rehab or need to put a family
Member at a facility please be sure to check this place out. They will care for your family member like they are their own wether it be for long term care or even rehab.
Your staffing is nice and is as accommodating as possible. My father is there to rehab from a second broken hip so his expectations are a bit higher than most. He's in a fragile state and requires a bit of extra attention so the extra help is appreciated. He's only been there for a day and a half and is allowed to stay 30 days for his therapy. I'm sure his stay will be shorter due to his tenacity and drive to get better. Thank you for being there for he and my mother! I'll make sure to revisit this survey at the end of his stay to report his experience there.
Since January there have been a change in the way things operate which has in my opinion hurt the facility. It appears that since David Reisner left quite a few things have changed or better said disappeared. David came around every day and mixed with the residents (he knew all their names) and employees and most important every Friday night at 5;50 he would put out a voice mail to all the residents contacts advising them of what is going on within the facility health wise and socially. I visit my wife almost every day for at least 3 hours and have never met the new director or even seen her. Nobody tells any one to wear a mask any more until you get to the floor that requires one with a sign on the post that you don't see till you almost walk by it. No notification by the lobby desk or by a system message. The care by the employees has not suffered but I believe the moral has. It is still one the best facilities in our area or my wife would not be there.
Our Lakeside church folks came to share a Lutheran service to very special residents. I especially appreciated Anna, the staff member who helped with those residents. She was very patient and affirming to them!
Concerned
When visiting memory care today 7/22, there were only 2 staff members with the residents. I realize it is Saturday, but when 1 staff member left to eat, I only saw 1 staff with the residents. I believe these employees were CNAs. I did not see a nurse or a supervisor. Earlier there was a nurse, but not when I returned at 3:30, 4:00.
Went to visit a member of our Knights of Columbus Chuck Di Ninno that will be there for rehab. My mother-in-law was there in 2020 and a lot of new up grades. Looks great.
While your loved ones are sleeping, so is South Port Square!
My experience at this facility was less than enthusiastic or meaningful. From management, nurses and CNAs were mostly less than helpful, accepting or caring for their residents.
Many times there were health concerns brought directly to the attention of the "assigned" nurse (could not use the word caring as it definitely did not fit). Health concerns that has landed several residents in the hospital due to oversight of staff. Nurses and management failing to report certain time sensitive issues, either brushing these types of concerns under a rug or simply just ignoring the resident issues or health concerns.
Make note that if your loved one is assigned to someone (whether staff or agency) that is working a double (16 hour shift) then your loved one may or may not be left sitting in urine for the better half of the day, causing skin breakdown. Multiple resident falls. Call lights left unanswered for more than 1 hour at a time at all times during the day. More times than not the 3-11 shift leave call lights unanswered for hours on end. The 11-7 shift the staff and agency (nurse and CNA) would actually go into resident rooms and fall asleep. Nurses would bundle up in blankets and fall asleep at the nurses station.
If your loved one is what a nurse considers a "handful" then they will not receive the same level of care as someone who is more independent. Often time brushing them off as "losing their mind" or "they are dying anyways."
The staff members more times than not have very unethical opinions (out loud) regarding family members, considering them a nuisance and a bother to their requests.
